Dorothy (Uhrin) Long passed away Saturday Jan. 3, 2009, with her family at her side.

She was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Crabtree, Pa., to John and Susan Uhrin.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always smiling and singing. She mostly enjoyed singing and dancing to polkas.

She was involved in her church of St. Ann's, Hagerstown, Md., as a Eucharistic minister and was instrumental in having the rosary said daily there. She was a strong believer in her Catholic faith.

She was employed at the Westmoreland County Court House and later retired from the Dorbee Factory. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Altar Rosary Society, Leitersburg Homemakers and the Catholic Daughters of America.

Dorothy also enjoyed, golf, bowling, sewing, baking, and singing and dancing.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Stephen T. Long; also by her seven sisters, Catherine Patrick, Helen Carr, Mary Kisk, Sophie Flicky, Margaret Sompel, Veronica Sorice and Pauline Marsh.

She is survived by her six children, Thomas Long and wife, Mary Louise, Stephen Long and wife, Theresa, both of Latrobe, Pa., Diane Spitzer and husband, Gary, of Hagerstown, Dennis Long and wife, Beverly, of Smithsburg, Md., Norman Long of Artemus, Pa., and Linda Seifarth and husband, Rick, of Hagerstown. She had 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ceil Thomas of Jeanette, Pa.

As was her wish, she was laid out at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, on Monday Jan. 5, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m., with the rosary offered at 8 p.m.

A funeral Mass is to be celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1525 Oak Hill Ave., Hagerstown, today at 10 a.m. with the Rev. C. Douglas Kinney as celebrant. She will then be brought to Pantalone Funeral Home in Greensburg, Pa., for viewing on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be a prayer service in the funeral home at that time. There will also be a service at time of burial on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at 10 a.m. in Calvary Hill Cemetery, Greensburg.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Hospice nurses and her wonderful caregivers in her time of need.
