What do you think?

January 05, 2009

Editor's note: Each week, The Herald-Mail invites readers to answer poll questions on its Web site, www.herald-mail.com. Readers also may submit comments about the poll question when voting. Each Sunday, a sampling of edited reader comments will run in The Herald-Mail.

Last week, there were two poll questions. The first question was: What was the top news story of 2008?

o "The economic meltdown is linked to all the other answers. (Barack) Obama, (Sarah) Palin and (Hillary) Clinton all ran to keep jobs and bring back the good old days. Housing market started the economic meltdown along with the high gas prices, which contributed to the auto industry, which had not been well for a while, to go begging for money. Iraq's contribution was the cost."

o "The election of the first black man to the presidency is big news, but it is not the biggest news. The biggest news is the continuation of a collection of political hacks as policymakers in the Congress of the United States."

o "Palin is disliked because she is a woman. Clinton did not get the nomination because she is a woman. The world has few women who are allowed to be rulers, and in some countries, females are treated like property and servants."

The second question was: How do you ring in the New Year?

o "I will ignore the whole thing because 2009 is not going to be a good year. Hopefully, I can hang onto my job. I am so tired of seeing all the rip-offs by the bailouts and the pork continues to grow even thought it costs more, it is only taxpayer money. The members of the Dems are talking down what Obama will accomplish while in office, so I'm not going to rely on a miracle."

o "Home with my family. There's no better place to be."
