BEDFORD, Pa. - Suzanne B. Pickell, 98, formerly of Bedford, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born May 5, 1910, in Yellow Creek, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Carl A. and Julia Heffner Best.

She was a 1931 graduate of the former Robert P. Smith Vocational High School in Yellow Creek and a 1934 graduate of McKeesport (Pa.) Hospital School of Nursing.

She worked as a registered nurse at Mercer County Hospital, Everett (Pa.) Hospital and Smith Nursing Home in Mann's Choice, Pa. She also was a private duty nurse throughout her career.

She was a Methodist.

She is survived by two children, Marcia P. Wilkins and John A. Pickell, both of Chambersburg; two sisters, A'Dra Chance of Louisville, Ky., and Elizabeth Snyder of Hopewell, Pa.; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Doris F. Reynolds; and five brothers, William C. Best, Marion L. Best, Joseph L. Best, Richard W. Best and James L. Best.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Ronald Cook and the Rev. Manny Diaz will officiate. Burial will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Bedford Forge United Methodist Church Cemetery, Yellow Creek.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
