GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Kenneth Carl Statler, 93, of 217 S. Washington St., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Oct. 16, 1915, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence W. and Ethel Pearl Brindle Statler.

He was a 1935 graduate of Greencastle High School.

He retired from Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle.

He was a member of Rescue Hose Co. 1, Mount Pisgah Lodge 443 F&AM of Greencastle, Greencastle Senior Men's Club and Harry D. Ziegler VFW Post 6319, where he served as the post's second commander.


He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dorothy E. Crunkleton Statler; one sister, Gladys Barnes of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, Pa.; one stepbrother, Harold Overcash of Penn Hall, Chambersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Glen Statler.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle. The Rev. Martin H. Horn will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends two hours before the service Saturday at the funeral home. The Greencastle VFW will hold a memorial service Saturday at 1 p.m. and Mount Pisgah Lodge will hold a memorial service Saturday at 1:30 p.m., both at the funeral home.
