HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Lester Bearl "Jack" Holbert, 77, of Hedgesville, formerly of Lanham, Md., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at his home.

Born Jan. 27, 1931, in Morgantown, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lester and Ola Marie Nuce Holbert.

He attended public schools in Morgantown.

He worked as a carpenter with Greenbelt (Md.) Homes.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He was a Methodist.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen Gail Burnside Holbert; one daughter, Patsy J. Quick of Hedgesville; one son, Jack D. Holbert of Hedgesville; three sisters, Jean McMillen of Massillon, Ohio, Virginia R. Radabaugh of Ravenna, Ohio, and Mary C. Berry of Fairmont, W.Va.; one brother, Lester Holbert of Ravenna; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur Holbert and Edward Holbert.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Daniel Montague will officiate. Burial will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md., with military graveside honors by the Tri-State Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home, which will be open Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
