Hedge Band to play at library Jan. 11
The Hedge Band will be in concert on Sunday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. at Washington County Free Library, 100 S. Potomac St., Hagers-town.
Although formed as a band in 2005 by Laura Byrne Egan, Donna Long, Pat Egan and Billy McComiskey, the four Maryland musicians have performed Irish traditional music independently at countless festivals and venues, including the Kennedy Center, the White House and the Lincoln Center.

King banquet to be held Jan. 18
The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. banquet will be held Sunday, Jan. 18, at 3 p.m. at Memorial Recreation Center.

Smoking classes
Washington County Health Department will hold its stop smoking classes starting Monday, Jan. 12.
The classes will run for eight sessions, ending in February. Morning sessions run from 11 a.m. to noon and evening sessions are from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Classes will be held at 1302 Pennsylvania Ave., second floor auditorium.
Free cessation aids will be available to eligible county residents while supplies last.

Financial workshop
Trinity Lutheran Church is offering finance classes on Monday evenings from Jan. 12, to April 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the church's fellowship hall. The church is at 15 Randolph Ave. in Hagerstown.
A free preview of the Financial Peace University workshop will be held Monday, Jan. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m.
There is off-street parking available in the church's lot. Free child care will be available for those attending the class.

The Black Achievers Black History Program will be held Monday, Feb. 16, at 11:30 a.m. at the Hagerstown YMCA, 1100 Eastern Blvd.
Pastor Darin Mency will deliver Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech. In addition, members of the community, local churches, as well as Black Achievers members will take part in the event.
The public is invited free of charge.
