December 31, 2008

ST. THOMAS, Pa. -- A St. Thomas man has been identified by the Franklin County Coroner's Office as the person killed Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle accident on Hade Road.

Bryant Andrew Zeis, 20, of 651 Appleway, died of head injuries sustained in the 12:52 a.m. crash in the 900 block of Hade Road, Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said. Zeis was taken from the scene of the accident by a St. Thomas Volunteer Fire Co. ambulance to Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 1:30 a.m., Conner said.

Zeis, who was not wearing a seat belt, was northbound in a 2008 Nissan Titan pickup truck when he lost control of the vehicle, Pennsylvania State Police said. The truck crossed the road, traveling through several yards and striking several mailboxes before the rear of the truck struck a utility pole and rolled over, police said.

Zeis was thrown from the pickup truck and was found in the middle of the road, Conner said.

"We raised him ... He was a great guy. Nice to be around," said Robert Zeis, his grandfather.

A 2006 graduate of James Buchanan High School, Bryant Zeis enjoyed football and baseball, as well as hunting and fishing, his grandfather said.
