HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Barbara T. Balut, 67, of Harpers Ferry, and formerly of Hamilton, Va., died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at Heritage Hall in Leesburg, Va.

Born Dec. 6, 1941, in Luzerne, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Michael J. Petro and Helen Kobick.

She received a bachelor's degree from Misericordia University in Dallas, Pa., and a master's degree in special education from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

She was a teacher who taught elementary, secondary and special education. She taught at Sander's Corner Elementary in Loudoun County before retiring.


She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ramon R. Balut; one daughter, Raeann H. Meier of Round Hill, Va.; one son, Ramon M. Balut of Conestoga, Pa.; one sister, Marianne A. Petro of Dallas, Pa.; three brothers, Michael Petro and Paul Petro, both of New Jersey and Joe Petro of Orlando, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Fr. Brian Owens will be celebrant.

The family will receive friends in celebration of her life at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, Charles Town/Harpers Ferry, W.Va., on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
