WILIAMSPORT - The Williamsport boys basketball team will get another chance to erase the long wait it's had since its last Richard E. Doub Classic title in 1996.

With its 73-63 victory over Greencastle-Antrim, the Wildcats meet Mountain Ridge tonight at 7 in the finals at Williamsport High School.

Mountain Ridge easily dispatched Broadfording Christian 72-26 in the opener.

"I'm happy with our offensive effort," said Williamsport coach Scott Mowbray after his team shot 49 percent (25 of 51). "This was the first time this year we pushed the ball in transition."

The Wildcats (4-1) worked the basketball inside as Connor Arnone ran the offense effectively. Sidekick Colby McCauley added his energy from end to end.

"We got beat on the defensive end," said Greencastle coach Garon Gembe. "(Williamsport) ran their flex and worked their screens very well."

Williamsport's assertiveness helped create a big difference at the foul line, going 21 of 30 compared to 4 of 6 for Greencastle to offset the Blue Devils' nine 3-pointers, led by Nathan Pool with four.

Greencastle (2-5) led 7-6 briefly in the first period before the Wildcats strung together an 8-0 run for a 14-7 lead with 2:46 left and never looked back.

McCauley missed a free throw to complete a three-point play, but grabbed the rebound and fed Casey McKenrick for a goal. Sefer Pllana followed with another deuce.

Pool scored seven points late in the second quarter to keep the Blue Devils in reach but they still trailed 32-27 at the half. The Wildcats closed out the game with a 16-3 run to mount a 55-36 lead by the end of the third quarter. McCauley and Stephen Christy each had a pair of goals during the surge.

"We're not bad. We have two sophomores progressively playing better and we've got some juniors moving ahead," said Mowbray. (Tonight) we have to stop (David) Hobel."

McCauley led Williamsport with 19 points - despite a dismal 6 of 11 at the line - while Warrenfeltz hit for 16, Arnone added 13 and Christy had 11. McKenrick had nine points and added five rebounds.

Greencastle placed five players in double figures, led by Pool with 20. Daniel Cordell had 11, while Adam Ritchey, Grant Meyers and John Frick each had 10.

The Blue Devils were playing without starters Trevor Ile (ankle) and Christian Hoover (illness).

"Pool and Myers shot well and Frick had a solid game," said Gembe. "Scoring 63 points wasn't the problem."

In the opener, sharpshooting David Hobel torched Broadfording for 12 points in the first period and finished with 17 at the half, en route to 30 points to lead Mountain Ridge (4-0). Hobel drained six 3-pointers.

Gabe Hirsch led Broadfording with seven points.

Greencastle meets Broadfording in the consolation game at 5 tonight.
