Happy New Year

I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas. Before you know it, it will be 2009.

New Year's Eve concert

Again this year, the Morning Star Singers will sponsor the Secrest Memorial New Year's Eve Concert on Wednesday from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Heritage Academy auditorium on Walnut Point Road, west of Hagerstown.

In concert will be the Masters from Nanty Glo, Pa., (Southern-style trio); the Gospel Strings from Middleburg, Pa., (gospel bluegrass); Driven For Him from Hagerstown (ladies trio); and the Morning Star Singers from Hagerstown (Southern-style gospel.)

No tickets are needed. Food will be available. A freewill offering will be taken to help cover expenses.

Heritage Academy is at 12215 Walnut Point Road, Hagerstown.

For more information, call Donald C. Sneckenberger (Morning Star Singers) at 301-733-9365.

Did You Know?

Did you know the town of Clear Spring once had as many as seven hotels?

One of the fanciest ones was called the American Hotel. Most lodging places in Clear Spring and along the Pike rented sleeping space. It cost about 12 cents a night. No one had their own room, though. It was usual to sleep about three to a bed, then floor space was rented out.
