Shepherd wins 16 awards at forensics meet

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd University won 16 awards and second-place sweepstakes in the Collegiate Forensics Association (CFA) holiday tournament Dec. 5-6 in Ashland, Va.

Shepherd also won 28 awards, the first place in the Sweepstakes Team award, and the Strine-Welsh Traveling Trophy for the best yearlong record.

Brittany Young, Inwood, W.Va., won seven awards: first place in the pentathlon, first place in extemporaneous speaking, second place in persuasive speaking, first place in impromptu speaking, first place in Lincoln-Douglas debate, second place in communication analysis, and second place in dramatic duo.

Nicholas DiBartolomeo, Martinsburg, W.Va., won six awards: second place in the pentathlon, second place in extemporaneous speaking, first place in persuasive speaking, first place in single dramatic interpretation, third place in communication analysis, and second place in dramatic duo.

Jess Leasure, Middletown, Md., won two awards: fifth place in prose and fifth place in dramatic duo.

Edward Rhodes, Martinsburg, won two awards: sixth place in informative and fifth place in dramatic duo.

In addition to Shepherd, Bloomsburg University, Alderson-Broaddus, Patrick Henry, Randolph-Macon, Methodist University, Fayetteville, Bridgewater, and Brookdale participated in the tournament.
