The Poes

Ralph and Shirley Poe of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th anniversary on Nov. 22, 2008, at a family party hosted by their children, Tina Hull, Debra Harnish, Rick Poe, Mark Poe and families.

Mr. and Mrs. Poe were married Nov. 22, 1958, at Chewsville United Brethren Church in Chewsville, by the Rev. Homer Kendall.

Mrs. Poe is the former Shirley Frances Hebb, daughter of the late James A. and Frances C. Hebb. She worked at London Fog Manufacturing in Boonsboro for 12 years.

Mr. Poe is the son of the late Randall C. and Dorothy E. Poe. He is retired from EastAlco Aluminum Plant in Frederick after 21 years of service. He worked for 16 years for the Richard F. Kline Construction Co., two years at Robert Daley and two years for Biddle Brothers construction companies, and served in the U.S. Air Force.


The Poes have 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

The Browns

Paul and Lois Brown of Boonsboro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at Fairplay Banquet Center.

The celebration was a surprise dinner hosted by their three children. Their son, Donnie Brown and daughter-in-law Ellen of Falling Waters, W.Va.; their daughter, Linda Ryan and son-in-law Jeff of Fairplay; and son Greg Brown and daughter-in-law Mary of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Joining them were family members, friends and neighbors.

The Browns are members of the Manor Church of the Brethren.

Mr. Brown is the son of Thelma Troupe of Boonsboro and the late Cecil Brown.

He worked at Pangborn Carborundum for 11 years, Fairchild Republic for 25 years and retired from Mack Trucks in 2005.

Mrs. Brown is the daughter of the late Homer and Blanche Anders of Fairplay.

Mr. Brown has been a member of the Fairplay Volunteer Fire Co. for 48 years and secretary for the last 35.

Mrs. Brown has been active in the ladies auxiliary for 43 years and is now second vice president of the fire company.

The Browns were married Nov. 29, 1958, in Williamsport by the Rev. Miles.

They have seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Milburns

Bob and Helen Milburn of Keedysville were recently honored at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary dinner at the Maple Grove Community Center in Smithsburg. They were surrounded by family and friends for an evening of food and reminiscing.

Helen Milburn is the former Helen Speaker, daughter of the late Sam and Mary Speaker of Downsville. Bob Milburn is the son of the late Bernie and Marcie "Sis" Milburn of Keedysville.

They were married Nov. 29, 1958, by the Rev. Baughman in Hagerstown. They have two daughters, Pam, who is married to Dave Lewis, and Sherry, who is married to Rodney Sowers.

The Milburns have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
