Homeschool groups aid needy families

December 26, 2008

Members of the Western Maryland Homeschool Association, the Western Maryland Homeschool HEARTS Group and the Western Maryland Chapter of the Homeschooler Helping Hands recently collected and purchased food, money and gift certificates for two local needy families for the holidays.

One family is a homeschooling family, the parents in which have had medical problems and couldn't work. The other family is not a homeschooling family but was dealing with unemployment due to illness.

The homeschooling family received the makings for a holiday dinner, complete with a turkey, cookie mixes, drinks, breakfast items, small stocking stuffers, and cash for any extras for their meal and the children.

The other family received a gift card to purchase gifts.

The groups are in the process of getting winter clothing for another family who needs it.
