If you suspect underage drinking ...

December 26, 2008

FREDERICK, Md. -- Underage drinking is a concern any time of the year but particularly during school vacations and holidays, when incidents of underage drinking tend to rise.

Community members can do something when they suspect a party is taking place where drugs or alcohol are being served to youth younger than 21 by calling the Frederick County underage drinking party tip hotline at 301-600-1318. Callers have two options:

o For parties that are currently in progress: Call 301-600-1318 and press "0." Callers then provide an operator with the address of the underage drinking (UAD) party. The operator then transfers the caller to the appropriate agency for action.

o For future parties: Call 301-600-1318. Callers may leave a message with the date, time and address of the party as well as information about other UAD matters. All information is forwarded to the appropriate police agency unit for action.

In both cases, callers are not required to provide their name and all information is kept confidential.

Those with additional questions about the hotline or UAD may call the Frederick County Health Department's alcohol and other drug abuse coordinator at 301-600-3289. Information about UAD is online at www.stopalcoholabuse.gov.
