Mail Call

December 24, 2008

"Wow, I just reread the city's decision to hire four firms to market the downtown area, and am still shaking my head in disbelief. The three oldest, most experienced firms in Hagerstown were all completely overlooked in this process. The project was not even put out to bid yet, as taxpayers, we are going to spend nearly $60,000 to fund this? ... It's time to end the ... deals and demand representation. In this tough economy, we should all want the best for our money. This deal never even allowed for that chance. I know, even while creating this comment, it will never be printed. That's how our money works."

"Again with the Palin bashing? Caroline Kennedy has absolutely no experience in any capacity. All she has is the Kennedy name. Sarah Palin is governor of Alaska, and until Obama recently received additional security clearance due to his win, she enjoyed a higher security clearance than either he or Sen. McCain, due to her being commander in chief for the National Guard in Alaska, which is only a stone's throw from Russia."

"This is an answer to the Mail Call that was in Monday's paper about the waitresses being so nice to customers that they could win an Academy Award. I work in a restaurant, and it's a very hard job these girls do, and they're very dedicated to their jobs. A lot of people don't realize that the pay for a waitress starting out and their tips, and a lot of people that come in are very picky and hard to please, and then they go and complain to the owner how they weren't treated right. So just an answer." -- Hagerstown

"Every time I turn David Letterman or any talk shows on, they're always making fun of President Bush, the way he speaks and stumbles. What about President-elect Obama? All I hear him do is stutter. ... But yet nobody makes fun of him doing that. Double standard, I'd say." -- Boonsboro

"Republicans think that government is bad and that it does not work. Then they work hard to get Republicans elected, like the ones that we now have, just to prove that government is bad and doesn't work. We should be thankful that we have elected Barack Obama. Maybe he can stop the downward trend."

"People in this area, Hagerstown, need to realize and know what 'yield' means. It means you don't have the right-of-way." -- Hagerstown

"To the person from Washington County: Don't you read the paper or listen to the news? That wasn't that tractor-trailer's fault on I-81. There was another car that caused the accident, not the truck driver." -- Falling Waters, W.Va.

"This is in regards to the person calling in about the servers being nice to people in restaurants only to get a tip. I'm very offended about that comment, because I am a server myself, and I am not only nice to my customers at work, but I am nice to people outside of work. And yes, I am working hard to get a tip in a restaurant, but that's not the only reason why I'm nice to people at work, so that comment is very, very much wrong." -- Hagerstown

"This is for the caller who called in about the Kennedy and the money and the Senate seat. It's not your money, it's not your Senate seat, so don't worry about it." -- Hagerstown
