FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. -- Donald L. Adams, 77, of Fayetteville, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Dec. 15, 1931, in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John and Mary Alice Layfield Adams.

He was a graduate of Patterson High School in Baltimore and attended the University of Maryland, where he majored in criminal justice. He then attended the Maryland State Police Academy, where he studied criminal investigation, trained in law enforcement with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and studied railroad transportation business at Georgia Tech.

He was employed for 36 years by CSX Railroad, retiring as the superintendent of the casualty prevention department.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Chambersburg Baptist Church.

He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 and BPO Elks Lodge 600, both of Chambersburg; Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 of Waynesboro, Pa.; Highland Lodge No. 184 A.F. and A.M of Baltimore; and the Order of Eastern Star of Catonsville, Md.


He is survived by his wife, Lucille Davis Adams, whom he married Aug. 22, 1964; two sons, Richard L. and Raymond D. Adams, both of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Bemel.

Masonic services by members of George Washington Lodge No.143 F & AM will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, followed immediately by a memorial service by the Rev. Richard Wall. Burial will be private.
