CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- George Ritter Armstrong, 88, of Chambersburg, went to the Lord peacefully on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008.

Born Feb. 25, 1920, in Thompson, North Grosvenordale, Conn., he was the son of Arthur Armstrong and Antonia Lebeau Armstrong.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Sarah J. Hawbecker Armstrong.

He is survived by his son, Ronald Armstrong, and daughter, Gloria Shank and husband, Paul Shank; two grandchildren, Mark Armstrong of Chambersburg and Roni Shaffer of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and seven great-grandchildren.

He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot and he was a veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1939 to 1946.


He was a member of the Marine Corps League and the VFW.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

A heartfelt thank you to Hospice, Rodgers Private Care Facility and Edith Rhodes and family for the love, caring and friendship given to our father.

Private graveside services will be in Lincoln Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
