City of Hagerstown offices closed for holidays



The City of Hagerstown's offices will be closed Thursday, Friday and Thursday, Jan. 1, in observance of the holidays.

Also, trash and recycling collection that normally is done Thursday and Friday in the city will be delayed one day because of the Christmas holiday.

Christmas tree collections scheduled



The Hagerstown Department of Public Works will begin collection of Christmas trees as noted in the following schedule. All ornaments, tinsel, lights or other decorations must be removed from the tree or it will not be collected.

o Jan. 12-13 -- Northwest quadrant from the west side of North Potomac Street to the north side of West Washington Street and all areas in between.

o Jan. 14 -- Northeast quadrant from the north side of East Washington Street to the east side of North Potomac Street and all areas in between.

o Jan. 15 -- Southwest quadrant from the south side of West Washington Avenue to the east side of South Potomac Street and all areas in between.

o Jan. 16 -- Southeast quadrant from the east side of South Potomac Street to the south side of East Washington Street and all areas in between.

Residents may place their tree at the curb in front of their residence as early as 4 p.m. the day before their scheduled collection date, and no later than 7 a.m. on their scheduled collection date.

The Department of Public Works will be collecting Christmas trees only. No other debris placed on the curb will be picked up at that time.
