Master Gardener classes to begin

Maryland Cooperative Extension is accepting applications for the Master Gardener class of 2009. Training will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, from Feb. 11 to April 8, at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center, Sharpsburg Pike, south of Hagerstown.

Christmas tree drop-off announced

FREDERICK, Md. - The City of Frederick Christmas tree drop off and recycling program begins Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 and continues through Friday, Jan. 23, 2009. The four drop off points are: Harry Grove Stadium in the lower lot; Husky Park (Yard 2), Highland Street; Max Kehne Park, West Seventh Street; and Taskers Chance Park, Key Parkway behind Westridge Shopping Center.

Each park will have a designated drop off area designated by a sign. Make sure trees are free of all ornaments, garland, tinsel, lights and/or tree stands. Remove any plastic bags from around the trees.

Christmas trees are collected annually and ground into mulch. For information, call 301-600-1173 or 301-600-1440.
