CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen F. Smetzer Wadel, 89, a resident of The Shook Home, Chambersburg, and formerly of 4 Spruce Street, Mont Alto, Pa., died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at the nursing home.

Born Nov. 30, 1919, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Etta Monn Smetzer.

She attended Quincy, Pa., schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Wadel. They were married in April 1950. He died July 22, 1988.

She worked at Carroll Shoe Factory in Mont Alto, retiring in 1981.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Mont Alto.

She is survived by one brother, Paul Smetzer of Waynesboro; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Viola Strausner and Catherine Verdier; and two brothers, George Smetzer and Ralph Smetzer.


Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Ray Kauffman will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, near Quincy, Pa.

The family will receive friends one hour before services at the funeral home.
