FREDERICK, Md. - Harold H. "Bud" Jones, 92, of 9421 Birchwood Court West and formerly of 515 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Northhampton Manor in Frederick.

Born Nov. 3, 1916, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Samuel Raymond and Edna Carbaugh Jones.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette Lucille Verdier Jones, in 2005. They were married July 5, 1945.

He was a 1932 graduate of Quincy (Pa.) High School. He studied business at the Penn State Mont Alto campus.

He worked in sales for Hess Manufacturing in Mont Alto, Pa., retiring in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Waynesboro. While living in Frederick, he attended Life and Liberty Church.


He was a member of the Man of War Air Group Squadron in England, BPOE Lodge 731 of Waynesboro, BPOE Lodge 684, Francis Scott Key American Legion Post 11 and John R. Webb VFW Post 3285, all of Frederick.

He is survived by one daughter, Melissa Wills of Frederick; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Jones.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro. The Rev. A. Robert Cook will officiate. Burial will follow in Mont Alto Cemetery, with military honors by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.

There will be no public viewing. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
