Mary E. Waltrick, 78, of Brinker Drive, Hagerstown, died on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at the Homewood Nursing Home in Williamsport.

Born Oct. 4, 1930, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George F. Besecker and Mary Catherine Diehl Besecker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles N. Waltrick, on Nov. 8, 1983.

She was a 1948 graduate of Hagerstown High School. Her late husband was also a 1948 graduate of Hagerstown High School.


After graduation, she was employed as a secretary in Hagerstown. She was a substitute teacher in Glen Burnie, Maryland. After the death of her husband, she returned to live in Hagerstown close to her best friends, Helen and Charles Koontz.

She is survived by a son, Steven B. Waltrick of Pasadena, Maryland; a daughter, Cathy M. Zebron of Nashville, Tennessee; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Anna E. Knepper on Dec. 29, 1996.

Mrs. Waltrick was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cleveland Avenue, Hagerstown.

She belonged to the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 306, and a member of the American Legion Morris Frock Post 42 Auxiliary in Hagerstown.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 20, 2008, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard, Hagerstown. Services will be at graveside on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at 3 p.m. with Rev. Robert E. McIntyre officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
