John H. Waggoner

John Hamilton Voyle Waggoner passed away on Dec. 17, 2008, at Julia Manor in Hagerstown.

A native of Hagerstown, he was born Oct. 22, 1917, and was the son of Edwin Riley Waggoner and Ethel Hamilton Waggoner Harper. He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, class of 1936.

A tool designer by trade, he began his career at Fairchild Aircraft and later was self-employed in both the heating and air-conditioning and metal fabrication businesses.

John was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, member of the Elks Club, and past member of the Hagerstown Power Squadron and Hagerstown Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Hazel Virginia Burkholder; daughters Christine Waggoner of Charlotte, N.C., and Beth Myers of Ft. Ashby, W.Va.; son-in-law Barry Myers; grandsons Colin Hamilton Myers of Huntington, W.Va., and Stephen Andrew Myers of Morgantown, W.Va. He is also survived by one sister, Mollie Ann Harper Church; brother-in-law Dale Walker Church; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edwin Andrew Waggoner.

A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church on Dec. 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. The family will receive visitors in the church parlor at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
