WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Leo Ellsworth Peck, 85, of 4897 Manheim Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at Waynesboro Hospital, of heart failure.

Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late William A. and Elsie M. Thomas Peck.

He was a 1942 graduate of Quincy (Pa.) High School.

Prior to retiring, he worked at Letterkenny Army Depot, as a missile mechanic.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Solomon's United Church of Christ in Chambersburg, Pa., where he served as an elder, deacon and sang in the choir. He also sang with gospel groups, two of which were, Hill Top Harmonizers and Hornbaker's Old Fashion Gospel Singers.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Jane Fortney Peck, whom he married Dec. 8, 1945; two daughters, Patricia J. Pryor and Wanda K. Hershman, both of Waynesboro; one son, Gregory E. Peck of Mont Alto, Pa.; two sisters, Goldie Shockey and Violet Kiser, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, Melvin Peck of Shady Grove, Pa. and Richard Peck of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Heldibridle; and three brothers, William Peck, Leonard Peck and Kenneth Peck.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Solomon's United Church of Christ in Chambersburg. The Rev. Peter E. Emig will officiate. Burial will be in Grindstone Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home in Waynesboro.
