BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Matthew A. Michael, 53, of Bunker Hill, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Born Sept. 25, 1955, in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of Catherine Shiley Greenwalt of Bunker Hill, and Raymond Michael and stepson of Gloria Michael of Martinsburg.

He attended Musselman High School.

He was co-owner with his wife of Middle Creek Archery LLC.

He had served with the 167th Air Force National Guard, Combat Support Squadron.

He was of the Christian faith.

He was a member of Tomahawk Archery Club, Jefferson County Izaak Walton League, NRA and IBO.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Christine Hess Michael; one daughter, Tammy Hawvermale of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one sister, Cindy Lillard of Bunker Hill; one brother, Rick Michael of Bunker Hill; three grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew.


He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Charles Greenwalt.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home's South Berkeley Chapel, Inwood. Pastor James L. Schuelke will officiate. Burial will be in Bunker Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
