Fire damages Waynesboro duplex

December 18, 2008

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A fire Thursday night caused heavy damage to the first floor of a duplex in the 200 block of South Broad Street, Waynesboro Fire Chief Dave Martin said.

The fire appeared to have started in the first-floor kitchen of 231 S. Broad St., Martin said. Damage to the second floor was moderate, and Martin described damage to the adjoining unit at 229 S. Broad St. as light.

No one was at home in either unit when the fire was called in at 7:24 p.m., Martin said. The cause of the fire was undetermined, he said.

Firefighters were on the scene for about 2 1/2 hours, Martin said.

The Mont Alto, Blue Ridge Summit and New Franklin fire companies responded to the fire, as did firefighters from Leitersburg, Martin said. A Waynesboro ambulance also was on scene, but there were no injuries, he said.
