FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Paul S. Carbaugh, 77, of 5400 Lincoln Way East, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at his home.

Born April 5, 1931, in Welsh Run, Pa., he was the son of the late Earl S. and Mary Jane Sampson Carbaugh.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret B. "Peggy" Carpenter Carbaugh, in 1998. They were married Dec. 16, 1950.

He retired after 26 years of service in the U.S. Army. He was employed for more than 20 years by Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army.


He was a member of South Mountain Fish and Game Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Pauline K. Peters and Mary A. Carpenter, both of Fayetteville; one son, Thomas H. Carbaugh of Chambersburg; two sisters, Edna Evitts of Chambersburg and Earlene Short of Shippensburg, Pa.; eight brothers, Frank Carbaugh and David Carbaugh, both of Fayetteville, Ralph Carbaugh, Harold Carbaugh, Guy Carbaugh and Richard Carbaugh, all of Chambersburg, Harry Carbaugh of Orrstown, Pa., and Eugene Carbaugh of Greencastle, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elwood Carbaugh and Kenneth Carbaugh; two grandsons; and one stepgranddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home in Greencastle. The Rev. Henry Barthalow will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, with military honors.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
