SMITHSBURG - Nelson A. Bair, 61, of Cavehill Road, passed away Monday, Dec. 15, at his home.

Born Oct. 15, 1947, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Russell T. and Helen T. Needy Bair.

He graduated from North Hagerstown High School, class of 1965.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was employed by Pinkerton Security Systems and Eastalco in Frederick for 17 years.

He was owner and operator of both Nelson A. Bair Excavating and Bair Pools and Supply.

He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Smithsburg.

He was a member of North American Rod and Gun Club and V.F.W., both in Hagerstown; South Mountain Rod and Gun Club, Smithsburg; Potomac Fish and Game Club, Williamsport; and GWRRA, W.Va. Chapter A .


He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan L. Miller Bair, they were married on Aug. 31,1968. Two sons, Rodney A. Bair and Jeffrey L. Bair, both of Smithsburg; three grandchildren, Cierra Bair, Morgan Salisbury and Taylar Spessard; two sisters, Sherry Mitchell and LaVerna Galliher, both of Baltimore; and one brother, Sherwood T. Bair of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.

Services will be held Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran Church at 16 N. Main St. Smithsburg with Rev. Gerry Johnson and Pastor Richard Daughtridge officiating. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery. Family will receive freinds Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the J. L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

The funeral home will open at 9 a.m.
