Winter Street students hold food drive

December 17, 2008

Students at Winter Street Elementary collected canned goods and nonperishable food items for the school's 16th annual Salvation Army holiday food drive.

After the teachers explained to the students the reason for the food drive, the children were excited to help. Second-grade students in Mrs. Moleskie's class contributed the most canned food items. Her class brought in more than 80 items. Classes throughout the school counted and boxed items for the food drive. Even the students in Mrs. Sturtz's prekindergarten class were eager to help.

Again this year, third-grade teacher Pamela Stevens coordinated the food drive.

"We are so very thankful that the children and the staff at our school are so kind and caring," Stevens said. "The students, staff and their families get all the credit for the success of our food drive."

A total of 413 cans and nonperishable food items were collected.
