Area roundup -- Monninger wins King of the Hill tournament

On Dec. 7, Southside Bowl in Hagerstown held the annual Daryl Moats Memorial King of the Hill Tenpin tournament, open to all USBC sanctioned bowlers. After a field of 48 bowlers competed in six qualifying games, five bowlers competed in a stepladder format, with Jeremy Monninger, of Marion, Pa., emerging as the winner.

Stepladder brackets included No. 5 Mike Calloway Jr. defeating No. 4 Adam Rutherford, 208-148. Calloway went on to defeat No. 3 Randy Shives 200-172 and No. 2 Jon Carter 202-197 before losing to Monninger in the final game, 199-159.

Honor scores bowled during the qualification games included a 300 game by Jeremy Nave in his final game of the afternoon and 12 strikes in a row for a 290 game by Casey Kindle in his first game.

Nov. 10 -- Shawn Reed bowled a 300 game in a 751 series (awarded $100, plaque);

Nov. 17 -- Marie Stevens bowled a 277 in a 689 series (awarded $50);

Nov. 24 -- Dave Murdorf bowled a 300 game in a 676 series (awarded $125, plaque); Phil Fox bowled two 300 games in an 844 series to set a house record (awarded $175, plaque);

Dec. 1 -- John Lowery bowled a 300 game in a 746 series (awarded $100, plaque); James Fann bowled a 750 series, 150 pins over his average (awarded $25);

Dec. 8 -- Shawn Reed bowled an 808 series, 150 pins over his average (awarded $75);

Nov. 22 -- Brenda St. Angelo bowled a 172 game, 65 pins over her average (awarded $25);

Dec. 3 -- Jimmy Burns bowled a 526 series (awarded $25).
