MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- The death of a popular 17-year-old Musselman High School student on his birthday Saturday prompted Berkeley County school district officials to send the county's crisis team to the Inwood school on Monday to help students, faculty and staff come to grips with the sudden loss.

Larry Allen Burkhart Jr., 17, of Martinsburg, died at his home, officials said.

At the Berkeley County Board of Education meeting on Monday evening, Superintendent Manny P. Arvon II said Burkhart was "very active" in FFA and believed the boy's death was caused by a medical ailment.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel in Inwood. Pastor Donald Dick will officiate. Burial will be in Family Cemetery, Kearneysville, W.Va.
