Preps Area Roundup - Saints stop Heritage Academy

BOYS BASKETBALL

Heritage Academy struck for four 3-point goials on the way to a 15-4 lead after the first period but St. James began a rally late in the second period to begin the charge back and the Eagles their first loss on Monday night, 50-43.

Mike Russ had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Saints (4-4) while Stephon Dunbar had 10 points and, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Andrew Hendershot led Heritage's 9 3-point barrage with four as he scored 14 points. Cody Butts added 11 points and Travis Bartholow had a team-high eight rebounds.

Chambersburg 62, Bishop McDevitt 46

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Chambersburg started fast and stunned Bishop McDevitt for a big early-season Mid-Penn Conference victory.

The Trojans (2-1, 1-1) rolled to an 18-10 lead after the first period and controlled the final eight minutes to surprise McDevitt (3-2, 1-2).

Junior Guard Rashon Bailey did plenty of damage for the Trojans with a 23-point effort including 5 3-pointers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Heritage 45, St. James 31

Morgan McIntire scored 16 points in three quarters and Brianna Dorsey had 10 to lead Heritage Academy (5-1).

McIntire also had four rebounds and six steals. Dorsey had seven points and seven steals.

Jordan Wills had 11 points for St. James (1-5), which led 11-4 after the first period.

Hedgesville 55, Fort Hill 39

CUMBERLAND, Md. -- Hedgesville broke away from a 20-all halftime tie with a strong second half for its third straight win.

Katy Leborious dropped in 17 points to lead the Eagles (3-0) and Greysen Brooks added 14.

Southern Fulton 57, Northern Bedford 52

LOYSBURG, Pa. -- Chelsey Hollenshead scored four of her 15 points in overtime as Southern Fulton pulled away at the overtime tip to defeat Northern Bedford in a Sideling Hill League game.

Northern Bedford closed in the second half as Jess Miller scored nine of her game-high 20 in the fourth quarter to forge the tie.

Hollenshead added nine rebounds, six assists and five steals for the Indians (4-0, 3-0), while Lacey Beatty finished with 12 points.

Chambersburg 62, Bishop McDevitt 46

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Lay Butler scored five points in the first quarter, including a 3 on her first shot, to start Chambersburg to a 20-6 first quarter and its first win of the season in a Mid-Penn Commonwealth victory over Bishop McDevitt.

The Trojans (1-3, 1-1) used quickness and passing to beat Bishop McDevitt's man press and build a 32-13 halftime lead.

Butler and Tasha Caldwell finished with 10 points each while Jade Flory had nine assists and Malice Miller added 12 rebounds.
