HANCOCK -- Clauda Idella Avella, 90, of Hancock, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Homewood at Williamsport.

Born Oct. 5, 1918, in Oldtown, Md., she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Clarabelle Furstenburg Schaidt.

Her husband, Clarence Edward Avella, died in 1962.

She attended Oldtown School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Hancock Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by five daughters, Sondra K. Avella, Sharon L. Reed, Portia R. McKee and Martha D. Avella, all of Hancock, and Liberty F. Merritt of Pokomoke City, Md.; one son, Paul E. Avella of Hancock; 11 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Carder; eight brothers, Joseph Schaidt, Raymond Schaidt, Irving Schaidt, George Schaidt, Lee Schaidt, Norman Schaidt, Charles Schaidt and Carl Schaidt.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Hancock Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Donald Preston will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

The family will receive friends at the church today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Hancock Assembly of God Mission Fund, North Pennsylvania Avenue, Hancock, MD 31750.
