FFA chapter attends national meet

INDIANAPOLIS - Members of the Conococheague FFA Chapter were one of 34 teams participating in the 2008 National FFA Agricultural Issues Forum Career Development Event Oct. 22 to 25 at the 81st National FFA Convention.

Team members included Tobin Stuff, Chance Kelley, Candace Dayley and Mandy Clark. The team members met with event sponsor representative Janet Roberts of Elanco Animal Health, a division of Eli Lilly and Co. The team received a bronze medal for its efforts.

Pam Hoffeditz of Mercersburg, Pa., coached the students.

The ag issues forum requires chapters to investigate, analyze and communicate a position to the community.

Members of the Conococheague FFA Chapter were one of 44 teams participating in the Farm Business Management Career Development Event.

Team members were Kevin Breakall, Tyler Funk, Tonya Grissinger and Kaitlyn Hoton. Their event sponsor was James Casey of John Deere. Their agriculture teacher and FFA adviser is Herb Hoffeditz.


In the Farm Business Management contest, Tyler Funk and Tonya Grissinger received individual silver medals. The team took the bronze medal.

During the event, competitors were given questions covering economic principles in farm business management as well as a problem-solving analysis section. Participants must understand the reasoning they have used and be able to defend the decisions to the judges.

The National FFA Farm Business Management CDE is sponsored by John Deere as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. It is one of 23 different national events that use the fun of competition to connect classroom learning and careers.
