'We the People' competition

December 15, 2008

Students from Washington County Public Schools and St. Maria Goretti High School will participate in the sixth annual "We the People" competition Wednesday in the classroom building at Hagerstown Community College.

The competition, which is a simulated congressional hearing, will begin at 9 a.m. and will close after a presentation of awards at 1 p.m.

Since its creation in 1987, more than 28 million students and 90,000 educators have participated in the rigorous "We the People" course of study.

The goal of the program is to promote civic competence among elementary and secondary students.

"We the People" is supported by numerous community and business organizations, as well as members of Congress and the General Assembly.
