Clear Spring FBLA tours Shepherd

December 15, 2008

On Oct. 27, Clear Spring High School's Future Business Leaders of America went to Shepherd University for a visit and a tour.

The group was greeted by the director of admissions, who talked about the college, majors offered by Shepherd University and financial aid.

Afterward, FBLA members spilt into two groups and were escorted around the campus by two Shepherd University students. The students ate lunch at the school.

The visit gave the 33 Future Business Leaders of America members an opportunity to see firsthand the facilities on campus, size of classes, technology available, opportunities in career fields and to experience campus life.

Fall leadership conference

On Nov. 5, 14 members of Clear Spring High School's FBLA traveled to the annual Future Business Leaders of America Fall Leadership Conference in Ocean City, Md.

They attended opening ceremonies with approximately 365 Maryland FBLA and DECA members and officers.

The program for the two days included a three-hour leadership academy, as well as workshops on networking, getting membership involved and fundraising.

The second-day schedule included more leadership academy training and workshops, followed by the closing ceremonies.

For the first time, two Blazer members - Dylan Baker, president, and Maria Jarvis, member - received Future Business Leaders of America leadership pins for correctly answering 25 questions on a survey of FBLA facts.
