The Burketts

Ronald and Shirley Burkett of Boonsboro were honored on Sept. 13, 2008, at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party at Always Ron's. Their daughters, Tammy Hutzell and Michelle Martin, hosted the party, which was attended by family. Also assisting with the celebration were the Burkett's three granddaughters.

Mrs. Burkett is the former Shirley Louise Crumbacker, daughter of the late Leona and Howard Crumbacker. She retired from Washington County government in 2002 as supervisor in the budget and finance department.

Mr. Burkett is the son of the late Arthur and Anna Ruth Burkett. He retired as foreman from Zeigler Mechanical-Electrical Inc. in 1999.

Mr. and Mrs. Burkett were married on Aug. 30, 1958, at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Lester Kauffman, now deceased.


The Martins

John "Ned" and Waunita Martin of Hagerstown celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Nov. 23, 2008 at a small family party hosted by their son, John, daughter-in-law, Pat and granddaughters.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin were married on Nov. 13, 1938, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, by the Rev. J. Edward Harms.

Mr. Martin was employed with The Potomac Edison Co. starting in 1941 at the Hagerstown General Office. He was transferred to Charles Town, W.Va., in 1948, Hancock, in 1961 and back to the Hagerstown General Office in 1972. He retired in 1975.

Mrs. Martin was employed by Valley Hardware and then the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission while in Charles Town, W.Va, and by Fouke Chevrolet and later Fulton Petroleum while in Hancock.

Mr. Martin is the son of the late John A. and Lettie J. Martin.

Mrs. Martin is the daughter of the late D. Fred and Beulah C. Cline.

The Martins also have five great-granddaughters and a great-grandson.
