Closures at Catoctin Mountain Park

THURMONT, Md. - Portions of Park Central Road at Catoctin Mountain Park will close to vehicle traffic at noon Monday, Dec. 22. The 2 1/2-mile section of road on the east side of the park beginning at the visitor center and ending at the 1,800-foot elevation is closed each year in mid-December. Park Central Road between Manahan and Foxville-Deerfield Road also will close.

When there is sufficient snow, Park Central Road provides a location to learn cross-country skiing. The elevation change beginning at the Thurmont Vista Parking Lot challenges a more advanced skier.

Park Central Road and Manahan Road will reopen to vehicle traffic in March as weather conditions permit. For information, call 301-663-9388.

Catoctin Mountain Park Visitor Center is closed on Wednesdays through March 25.

Reservations for the 2009 camping season at Camp Misty Mount will be accepted beginning Friday, Jan. 2, 2009. For information, call 301-271-3140.
