Christmas play set for Sunday

The Disciples Sunday School Class of Grace United Methodist Church invites the community for the presentation of "The Christmas Family" on Sunday at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served following the showing.

If you are unable to attend, an encore showing will be held Sunday, Dec. 21, during the Sunday school hour starting at 9:45 a.m.

Mansion House Art Gallery

The following events are planned at the Mansion House Art Gallery in Hagerstown City Park:

Dec. 12 to Jan. 11 - Second annual Best of the Best, an all-membership show of Valley Art Association artists' works will be on exhibit in the North Gallery.

Jan. 16 to March 1 - Winter Exhibit in the North Gallery. This will be an all-membership show.

March 6 to 29 - Sue Parker Exhibit in the North Gallery.

March 28 to May 17 - Valley Art Association artists will be displaying their art in the Bowman Gallery of Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.


The Mansion House gallery hours are Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Baby-sitter training

The Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross, at 1131 Conrad Court Hagerstown, will hold a baby sitter boot camp course Dec. 29 to 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost of the three-day camp is $100. Financial aid is available.

Participants are asked to register in advance as space is limited. Bring a bag lunch.

The purpose of the camp is to provide individuals, ages 11 to 15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This training will help participants develop skills in leadership and professionalism; basic care; safety and safe play. The student's will also learn child and infant CPR along with standard first aid.

The students will also receive a baby sitters training handbook, a baby sitters training emergency reference guide, a baby sitters training CD-ROM and a baby sitters backpack.

The Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross is holding the following blood drives with door prizes:

Dec. 15 - Rehoboth Church, Williamsport, 1 to 7 p.m.; enter to win a flatscreen TV.

Dec. 16 - St. John's Church, Clear Spring, 1 to 7 p.m.; enter to win a flatscreen TV and receive a free Paula Deen apron while supplies last.

Dec. 16 - Robinwood Medical Center, Conference Room 122, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; enter to win a flatscreen TV and receive a free Paula Deen apron while supplies last.

Share the Love

Sharrett Subaru, at 1031 Auto Place in Hagerstown's Auto Mall, has extended its Share the Love event to the Humane Society of Washington County in an effort to help raise money for the shelter and help homeless pets find homes. Until Jan. 2, Sharrett Subaru will donate $250 for every vehicle sold when the purchaser requests the donation be sent to the shelter. In addition, they are hosting an adoption event Saturday for the shelter. Adoptable pets will be at Sharrett from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
