HANCOCK - William Henry "Bill" Dean Jr., 63, of Hancock, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at his home.
Born April 22, 1945, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Edna P. Payne Dean of Charles County, Md., and the late William Henry Dean Sr.
He was a 1964 graduate of Frederick Sasscer High School and received a bachelor of science degree from Coppin State College.
He was employed by Washington County Commissioners as superintendent of operations for Washington County Department of Water Quality.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy C. "Dottie" Davis Dean, whom he married Jan. 3, 2003; three daughters, Brenda J. Dean of Glen Spey, N.Y., Barbara Herz of Simpsonville, S.C., and Belinda Hartung of Jacksonville, Fla.; one son, William H. Dean III of Hancock; two stepdaughters, Amanda L. Gardner of Hagerstown and Melissa A. Miller of Hagerstown; two stepsons, Justin W. Frey of Hagerstown and Robert A. Frey of Hancock; three sisters, Betty L. Palmer of Pocohontas, Ark., Patricia A. Cooksey of Maynard, Ark., and Linda D. Wedding of Newburg, Md.; one brother, James M. Dean of La Plata, Md.; and nine grandchildren.
