Ray Eugene Spoonire, 82, formerly of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born May 24, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Jesse Herbert and Esther Mae Cradler Spoonire.

He retired in 1988 with 38 years of service from Pangborn Corp., where he was a warehouse receiving clerk.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God, Hagerstown.

He was a member of BPOE Elks Lodge 378, Hagerstown.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda D. Miller of Williamsport, Susan L. Spoonire of Baltimore and Debbie J. Spoonire of Texas; five sons, Bobby R. Spoonire of Vernandez, Texas, Terry A. Spoonire of Vermont, Michael Spoonire and Mark Spoonire, both of Hagerstown, and Brian Spoonire of Alabama; two brothers, Donald Spoonire of York, Pa., and Merle Spoonire of Tennessee; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by one son, Ray E. Spoonire; two sisters; and four brothers.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Virginia Avenue Church of God, 17306 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
