CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Catherine King Thomas, 78, of 411 Cedar Street, Chambersburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at her home.
Born March 12, 1930, in Columbus, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Robert King Sr. and Ida Mae Cutts King Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Thomas, on Oct. 12, 1990.
She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Chambersburg.
She was a member of the NAACP.
A full-time mother, she raised 14 children while also doing factory work outside the home.
She is survived by 12 children, Benjamin Thomas Jr., Jerome Thomas, Carmerlita Noel, Hester Thomas, Betty Thomas, Sheila Haggins, Anthony Thomas and Douglas Thomas, all of Chambersburg, Larry Thomas of Gettysburg, Pa., Sonny Thomas of Greensburg, Pa., Johnny Thomas of Harrisburg, Pa., and Frankie Thomas of White Deer, Pa.; three sisters, Mary King of Biglerville, Pa., Rose Bolton of South Carolina and Gloria Brown of St. Thomas, Pa.; one brother, Robert King Jr. of Gettysburg; 32 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great and great-great-great-grandchildren.
