Joseph M. Gonzalez, age 87

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Joseph Manuel "Joe" Gonzalez, age 87, of Buhrman Drive West, passed into Heaven peacefully with his entire family at his side on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Dec. 4, 1921, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a son of the late Andrew and Concepcion Gonzalez.

Joe was married Nov. 1, 1943, to Madge L. Jones Gonzalez, who preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 1996.

He had been employed for 30 years with Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, retiring in 1981.

Joe was a veteran of World War II and Korea, serving with the U.S. Army. He participated in the D-Day invasion of the beaches in France and received the Bronze Star.

Joe was a member of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion in Boonsboro and the Hagerstown VFW.

He will be dearly missed by his family, and was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather.


Joe is survived by three daughters, Bonnie J. Hawbaker and husband, Ronald, of Boonsboro, Carol A. Brown and husband, Richard, of Waynesboro, Pa., and Jeannie Gonzalez and special friend, Anthony Carrozza, of Frederick, Md.; six grandchildren, Dwayne A. Hawbaker and wife, Kim, of Keedysville, Andrea L. Turner of Boonsboro, Earle F. Geisbert III of Frederick, Nikki E. Brown of Waynesboro, James A. Brown of Gettysburg, Pa., and Rebecca L. Fuchs of Atlanta, Ga.; nine great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Alli and Addison Hawbaker, Aaron, Alex and Amanda Turner, Adam and Michael Fuchs, and Kolbie Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose and Carmen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro. The Rev. Bob Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
