HANCOCK - Lewis Charles "Bill" Truax Sr., age 72, of Resley Road, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Feb. 16, 1936, in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Claude W. and Geraldine Elizabeth Sipes Truax.

He attended Hancock area schools.

He was a heavy equipment operator, a member of Operator's Engineer Local 37 of Baltimore, Md.

He attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hancock.

He was a member of the N.R.A., a member of the North American Hunt Club, a member of the North American Fish Club and a member and caretaker of the T. Hunt Club, Hancock.


He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary L. Carlisle Truax, whom he married May 25, 1956, in Hancock; one son, Lewis Charles "Bill" Truax Jr. of Hancock; two grandchildren, Samantha Truax and Lewis Charles Truax III, both of Hancock; two great-grandchildren, Devon and Dakota. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Truax, Robert Truax and Junior Truax.

A service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Grove Funeral Home, Hancock. The Rev. W. Kenneth Stottlemyer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Hancock.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hancock Rescue Squad, Inc., 57 E. Main St., Hancock, MD 21750.
