CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Fern C. Kniseley, 96, of 390 Ragged Edge Road, and formerly of Pleasantville, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1912, in Dawson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Bertha Greist Colbert.

Her husband, Dr. Joseph H. Kniseley, died Sept. 19, 1972. They were married Dec. 20, 1940.

She was an honors graduate of Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh.

She worked as a registered nurse alongside her husband for 27 years in his family medical practice in Bedford County.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Paris, Pa., and attended First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, where she was a member of the Alda Bower Sunday school class.

She was also a member of Martha Custis Chapter 342 Order of Eastern Star, Chambersburg.

She is survived by three daughters, Shari Ewing of Chambersburg, Deidra A. Kniseley of Connecticut and JoAnnette Nelson of Blenicia, Calif.; two granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.


She was the last of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by two infant daughters; five brothers; and two sisters.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg. The Revs. John J. Dromazos and Dianne B. Salter will officiate.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Pleasantville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 225 S. Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
