HANOVER, Pa. - Mark F. "Bud" Frantz Jr., 82, a resident of Hanover House Nursing Home, and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at the nursing home.

Born April 30, 1926, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Mark F. Frantz Sr. and Margaret K. Martin Frantz.

He was a 1944 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He was self-employed as the owner and operator of Poole's Hardware and Building Supplies, Sabillasville, Md., for 31 years before retiring in 1982.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a Signalman 2C, where he received the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal.

He was a member of Snowmobile Club of Pa., BPO Elks 731, Waynesboro, American Legion Post 239, Cascade, and William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695, Waynesboro.

While living in South Carolina, he served as a volunteer driver for Murrell's Inlet VFW. On Dec. 18, 2003, he received the Legion of Honor Award from Chapel of Four Chaplains for his service.

He is survived by his good friend, Glenna Sell of Keymar, Md.; three sisters: B.J. Boyer of Williamsport, Hap Saylor of Pawley's Island, S.C., and Carolyn Brunschwyler of Birdsboro, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert M. Frantz.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
