CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A 20-year-old Franklin County, Pa., woman was killed Monday morning in Guilford Township when the 1997 Saturn she was driving east on U.S. 30 near McDermott Street collided with a sport utility vehicle, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Lauren M. Hamby of St. Thomas, Pa., was taken to Chambersburg Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:59 a.m., according to the Franklin County Coroner's office.

Hamby tried to avoid colliding with another car when she swerved onto the berm and lost control of her car at 8:36 a.m., state police said.

Hamby's car then crossed the road into the westbound lane and collided with a 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by David R. Shrader, 58, of Chambersburg, state police said.

Hamby was unrestrained in her car and had major injuries, police said.

Her car was struck on the passenger side.

The crash occurred 164 feet east of McDermott Road, rescue officials said.

Shrader had minor injuries, police said.

State police said they were investigating whether the driver of a third vehicle might have contributed to or witnessed the accident. That vehicle was believed to be a red or maroon four-door sedan, state police said.

Anyone with information about the crash may contact Trooper Scott E. Bowes at 717-264-5161.
