Child-care certification

Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education is offering the next installment of its child-care certification courses for the spring semester.

"Communication Skills for Child Care Professionals" is a new course that is offered on Saturdays, Jan. 10 and 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on HCC's main campus.

The course is designed for child-care professionals as an introduction to the basic concepts needed to develop strong communication skills for working in a child-care center. Topics include speaking, writing, interpersonal communication strategies and critical techniques, with an emphasis on communication with parents and co-workers, as well as the communication issues that typically occur in a child care-center day.

The course is required by the Maryland Office of Child Care for child-care center pre-licensing for those entering the field after July 1 and may also be used for child-care professionals who are continuing their education.
