MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A 24-year-old Baltimore man was arrested Friday in Martinsburg after he crashed the vehicle he was driving while attempting to flee from police after allegedly taking part in a crack cocaine deal with drug task force members, police said.

Matthew Pointer and a 17-year-old female were taken into custody after he crashed an Infiniti into the ROCS gas station sign at the intersection of Winchester Avenue and Wilson Street in Martinsburg, West Virginia State Police Sgt. T.C. Kearns said.

Pointer was booked at Eastern Regional Jail at 3:50 p.m. He was wanted on federal charges of cocaine distribution and will be charged with fleeing from a law enforcement officer, according to police and jail records.

Kearns said Pointer fled in the Infiniti on U.S. 11 from Inwood, W.Va., after a drug deal with members of the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and drug task force members from Winchester, Va.
