Preps Area Roundup - Calvert Hall smacks Goretti

BOY'S BASKETBALL
St. Maria Goretti opened its Baltimore Catholic League campaign on Sunday and suffered a 70-44 thumping by Calvert Hall.

Goretti (3-4, 0-1) trailed only 16-14 early in the second period before Calvert Hall finished with a run that opened a 34-17 lead at halftime.

Guards Nic Martin and Tyler Sterling led Goretti in scoring with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Montrose Christian 77, Mercersburg 18
ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Mercersburg Academy was crushed by one of the top boys basketball programs in the nation on Saturday.

With two Division 1 recruits, Montrose Christian raced to a quick 25-4 lead. Nigel Van Oostrum had eight points for Mercersburg (0-2).

Mercersburg 69, U. Penn JV 64
PHILADELPHIA -- Taylor Dunn scored 31 points and Nigel Oostrum added 20 as Mercersburg beat University of Pennsylvania JVs.

Dunn tossed in four 3-pointers and was 7 of 7 at the line and Oostrum hit of pair of 3s and went 12 of 12 at the line for the Blue Storm (1-2).

Greencastle 37, Dover 26

YORK, Pa. -- Meghin Palmer scored 12 points to lead Greencastle to a consolation win over Dover on Saturday in the Northern Tip-Off Tournament.

Cali Schroyer added 10 points for the Blue Devils (1-1), who overcame a 14-11 halftime deficit.

Hubs at Patuxent Duals

LUSBY, Md. -- North Hagerstown went 4-5 in nine matches over the weekend.

The Hubs' top wrestlers were Adrian Rivas (8-1 with four pins at 130 pounds), Mike Leonard (7-1 with six pins at 145), Jake Turner (8-1 with seven pins at 152), Devin Martinez (6-1 with five pins at 160) and Carter Baer (6-3 with five pins at 119).

Mountain View, Va., won the meet with a 9-0 record, followed by Hammond (8-1) amd South River (7-2).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
HCC 78, Clark State 42

Cara Thompson had 13 points, seven assists and four steals to lead Hagerstown Community College past Clark State (4-6) at the HCC athletic complex.

Shawayna Morel had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and she added three steals for the Hawks (5-6). Miranda Payne added 10 points.
